Riser
Where cables go up and down between floors — a grey Riser A that every rack and panel in the building uses, or one rack's or panel's own riser in its colour.
A riser marks where cables go up or down between floors. Each riser has a letter, and the same letter on every floor is the same shaft. Letters belong to the building: a new shaft takes the first letter no other shaft there uses: one letter, one place.
There are two kinds:
- A shared riser, the usual one: a grey disc with its letter, labelled Riser A. Every rack or panel in its building can use it. Small arrowheads point to the floors its shaft reaches.
- An own riser, for one rack or panel only: a disc in its colour — half and half for a thermostat hub's red and blue — with an arrow toward it, labelled with its Number: R-1, or R-1-B once it can also use another riser. Earlier risers are own risers.
A riser has no cables of its own, no number, and stays out of the Equipment list and legends.
A cable from another sheet takes the shortest way through any riser its rack or panel can use; a shared shaft counts only where it has a riser on both floors. When the real route differs, pin the cable to another riser in the icon's Properties. The cable schedule names the riser when there was a choice.
Risers are placed from the Cabling tab's Risers, floor by floor, never from the palette. Deleting a rack or panel deletes its own risers.
Tasks: Place a riser, set a sheet's floor, enter a measured length.
