Zone

Devices joined by connections on one sheet, such as a stereo pair, a surround set or a door with its hardware.

A zone is a group of devices joined by connections on the same sheet. Examples: a stereo pair, a 5.2.4 surround set, lighting fixtures on one dimming zone, or a door marker with its access-control hardware.

Surround devices show a position such as FL, C or SW1 instead of a number; only a subwoofer takes SW. A 70V speaker never joins a surround, and 70V and 8Ω speakers never share a zone, except an 8Ω subwoofer on its line. A zone of 70V or 100V speakers is one line, 70V-A, wired as a chain from where its cable enters. A soundbar keeps its number and stands for L, C and R (L and R for a 2-channel one, C alone for a centre-only one), so its system's name counts them. With several surround systems, each is numbered and its speakers' labels say which: S2·SL. Two surround systems may share a screen. Its lines are dashed, in its own colour. Lighting zones and door groups are listed together in Equipment. Connections never change equipment list quantities.

Passive speakers of a zone may be wired as pairs, Left and Right on one cable — in a surround, FL with FR and each left role with its right — or each on its own: As pairs or Each speaker in a speaker's Cabling.

Tasks: Connect devices into a zone, wire speakers as pairs, add a soundbar, set a speaker to powered or 70V, build a 70V or 100V line.
