How do I…
Show a camera's field of view
Show what each camera sees as a fading wedge along its aim, and change how far one camera sees.
Where to find it: Equipment (right edge) › Cameras › Show field of view
- Set the scale of the sheet first. Without one, coverage follows icon size as an estimate; the controls say Approximate coverage — set scale for accurate distances.
- Open Equipment on the right edge and click Show field of view in the Cameras header. Every camera shows a wedge in its colour, strongest at the camera and fading with distance, with a thin line along each side of its angle and none across its far end. A 360° camera has no sides, so no line. Click Hide field of view to take them away.
- The wedge follows the camera: its Aim, as wide as its Coverage, one wedge for each lens of a multi-lens camera. Turn the aim with its handle and the wedge turns with it.
- To change how far one camera sees, select it: Properties › Placement › View distance, in feet or metres. Reset to the type's puts it back.
A camera sees 30 ft (9.1 m) and a 360° panoramic one 20 ft: about where a 4 MP camera can still recognise a person.
The field belongs to the selected view, including Default. Owners and Editors save changes automatically; Viewers change only their own temporary display. The same choice is Camera field of view beside Cameras in Views › Systems. Hiding Cameras retains this choice and disables the detail button until Cameras show again. The Views panel identifies unscaled coverage as approximate.
Once a blueprint's rooms and walls are in use, camera coverage stops at its walls: Respect walls is on by default wherever walls exist, and cameras elsewhere show their usual coverage. The wall button beside the field of view in Equipment, or the chevron beside the camera coverage control in Views, turns it off or on. Turned on by hand, a camera with a missing or outdated map shows no coverage; its Placement › Wall map explains what needs correcting. Opaque walls and obstructions block the view; doors and windows block until marked clear. Move a lens exactly on a wall line slightly to the intended side.
New PDF and presentation pages use their view's saved field setting, including Default pages. New output stops at the walls the same way; with Respect walls turned on by hand, it asks for correction if a visible camera has no usable map. Existing published pages and issued versions keep their content. See coverage field and show Wi-Fi coverage.
