How do I…
Place a keypad, dimmer or switch
Place wall controls — keypads, dimmers, switches, keypad dimmers, fan controls and companions — wired on a keypad link, or wireless on 120 V in the box.
Where to find it: Palette › Equipment › Lighting control; for one already placed, select it › Properties › Device › Connection
Lighting control in the palette holds six wall controls, each counted with its own number:
- Keypad (KP): buttons only. It sends commands and switches no lights itself.
- Dimmer (DIM) and Switch (SWT): each switches its own lights.
- Keypad dimmer (KPD): buttons and a dimmer in one.
- Fan control (FAN).
- Companion (AUX): the second switch of a 3-way, on its dimmer's traveler.
The dimming and switching zones beside them are the lights being controlled, not the controls; see connect devices into a zone. To put several controls on one faceplate in one step, place a gang box.
Wired or wireless
Lighting control lists wired and wireless lighting apart, with a little space between them. First the panelized (wired) lighting, headed by Keypad box, a gang box of wired keypads: the lighting panel, its processor, a wired keypad, and the dimming and switching zones the panel drives. The keypad joins a keypad link on the Lutron keypad wire at the nearest Lutron processor, never the rack: placing it switches that processor on as a rack or panel if it is not one yet. With no processor it goes to a Lighting panel, and with neither it is Not assigned until you place a processor. Then the wireless lighting, headed by Dimmer box, a gang box of dimmers: the wireless processor (LW), a wireless keypad drawn with the wireless fan, and the dimmer, switch, keypad dimmer, fan control and companion. The light fixtures, LED tape and landscape lights are in Lighting, the group before it.
Power
A wireless keypad is on 120 V in its box, or on a Battery — a battery remote such as a Pico. A companion is on 120 V, or on a Battery when it is a wireless remote. A dimmer, switch, keypad dimmer and fan control are always on 120 V. A European workspace reads 230 V.
A control on 120 V takes no cable to a rack. Its cable card reads 120 V, and the cable schedule prints one note line in its section telling the electrician to bring line voltage and a neutral to the box. A wired dimmer shows its cable and the same note. Equipment lists a wireless or battery keypad and a wired dimmer on rows of their own, such as "Keypad · Wireless".
The first wireless control on a sheet with no LW asks Place a Lutron wireless processor?, as a wireless shade does; see set a shade to wireless.
KNX
A KNX keypad is a wired keypad. The KNX bus cable is in the US list too, so an Owner can make it the keypad link's cable in the cabling defaults.
