Icon type and variant

What kind of device an icon is, and the named options inside that kind.

An icon type is the definition of one kind of device in a library: its label, number prefix, system, look and product data. The Palette lists icon types in groups, each variant a tile of its own.

A variant is a named option of an icon type, such as a kind of camera or a size of speaker. It has a separate legend row when its drawn symbol or printed code differs; identical pictures and codes share a row. Choosing a variant can change how the icon looks. On a placed device, Variant in its Properties switches between them; a drapery shows Type instead, and a TV Size.

The drawing, the PDF and the presentation draw an icon type the same way, so what you see is what prints.

Tasks: Place a device, change a device's details and place a tabletop touchscreen.
