How do I…
Line up and space devices evenly
Place the next device in the same gap as the others, line several up, space them evenly, or tidy a rough group in one click.
Where to find it: select two or more devices › Properties › the row of buttons at the top, and Tidy up under it — or right-click one of them › Arrange
While you place or drag
With Smart alignment on in the bottom toolbar, a device you place or drag lines up with the centres of the others, shown by a blue dotted line. It also clicks into an even spacing with the devices in its row or column: the same gap the row already has, from either end, or exactly halfway between two. Pink marks beside the row show every gap of that size, centre to centre, with its length when the sheet has a scale.
Hold Shift while you drag to keep the move straight across or straight down. It works for a whole selection too.
A cable card you drag lines up with the other cards the same way, by its edges or its centre; cards do not space evenly.
Line up or space several at once
Select the devices: drag a box round them, or hold Shift and click each one; see copy, duplicate or delete devices. Properties then shows a row of buttons at the top:
- Align left, Align center and Align right put their centres on one line down the sheet; Align top, Align middle and Align bottom on one line across it.
- Space evenly across and Space evenly down leave the two outermost where they are and even out the ones between. They need three devices or more.
- Tidy up works out the rows and columns from where the devices already are, then makes them straight with even gaps.
The same choices are on the drawing's right-click menu: right-click one of the selected devices, or hold a finger on it, and they are under Arrange at the bottom — Tidy up, then a line of the same icons.
Placed one more at the end of a row? Select the whole row and press Tidy up again: the row stretches to the new one and evens out.
Good to know
- Each press is one step to undo.
- Everything lines up by its centre, so a small keypad and a large display sit on the same line.
- A display and its paired soundbar move as one.
- A device placed beside a pointer keeps its pointer's tip where it points.
- Devices of a locked group are never selected, so they stay put.
- Members who can only view do not see the row.
