How do I…

Add a note to a cable

Write a note on a cable row, over up to nine lines, and see it under its cable on the cable card and in the cable schedule.

Where to find it: click the icon › Properties › Cabling › Cables › the row's ⋯ › Add a note

  1. Choose Add a note in the row's ⋯ and type it, up to 200 characters, such as "behind TV" or where to leave a coil.
  2. Press Enter to start a new line, up to nine lines; lines pasted past the ninth join it. The note is kept when you click away, or with Cmd or Ctrl+Enter; Escape puts back what it said.
  3. To take it away, clear it and click away.

A note alone does not mark the cables Changed, and Reset keeps it on its cable while the defaults still have that row.

The note shows under its cable on the icon's cable card, smaller and in grey, line by line as you typed it: the card widens to the longest line, and only a very long line with no breaks is broken. It shows there as you type, the card growing where it stands; it is saved, and your colleagues see it, when you click away. Two rows of one cable to the same place share their row on the card, their notes under it in order. A device in a gang box has no card of its own: its notes, and the note on its Power row, show under its row on the box's label card.

In the cable schedule, and in the cable CSV, the note is in the Notes column with " / " where you started a new line. A note in the surround builder stays on one line. See change an icon's cables for the rest of a row.
