How do I…

Build a 70V or 100V line

Each zone of 70V or 100V speakers is one line, wired as a chain from where its cable enters; choose its cable and voltage, and add a subwoofer to it.

Where to find it: the Cabling tab › Groups › its line, such as 70V-A, or a speaker's Properties › Cabling › Line

A new landscape speaker starts at 70V (100V in a European workspace), and any passive speaker does once you choose 70V in its Power; see set a speaker to powered or 70V. Speakers connected into one zone are one line — a Cable group at their rack or panel — and the next zone is the next line: 70V-A, 70V-B. To move a speaker to another line, connect it into that zone or disconnect it from its own; unlike keypads and fire alarm devices, a line has no New group.

How a line is wired

The line's cable enters one speaker, its entry: the one a conduit reaches, otherwise the speaker placed first — never a subwoofer. From there each speaker's cable comes from its neighbour toward the entry, so an entry in the middle of a zone makes two branches. Each piece is its own cable with its own Cable ID and length, and each speaker's cable card shows the piece that reaches it: "→ LS-2", or its rack's or panel's Number for the entry.

  1. In the Cabling tab's Groups, click the line under its rack or panel. It opens in place, says where the cable enters and lists every piece, such as "R-1 → LS-1 · 16/2".
  2. Its cable is 16/2 (2×1.5 mm² in a European workspace) unless you choose another. Past about 300 ft (90 m) on that cable, the line takes the heavier 14/2 (2×2.5 mm²) on its own.
  3. For a 100-volt line, the European norm, click 100V. The line becomes 100V-A and its speakers read LS/100V-1. 70V switches it back.

From the drawing: select a speaker, and its Cabling shows its Line. Click the line's name to select every speaker on it; Properties then shows the same line settings as Groups.

Until a zone's line is stored — on a drawing from before lines were zones — the zone shows in red in Groups and under Totals, and a version cannot be saved: connect or disconnect one of its speakers and the line is stored.

Chain-placed from a speaker on a line, or connected to one, a speaker takes that line's voltage. A speaker whose voltage differs from the rest of its zone is warned, with a button that sets it and puts it on the zone's line. Past your company's limit the line is marked in red: split its zone to start another line.

A subwoofer on the line

  • A 70V subwoofer is a member like any other, on the line's two conductors.
  • An 8Ω subwoofer needs a pair of its own. Chain-place it into the zone, or connect it, and it branches off the speaker before it: every piece from the rack or panel to that speaker becomes four-conductor (16/4, or 14/4), and the subwoofer's own piece and the next speakers stay two-conductor (16/2). Disconnect it and it runs to its rack or panel again.

Switching the voltage never changes an 8Ω subwoofer.
