How do I…

Enter a measured length

See each cable's estimated length, what to fix when it has none, enter a measured length in its place, and set an icon's mount height.

Where to find it: click the icon › Properties › Cabling › Cables, under each cable

Under each cable in an icon's Cables, in its Cabling section, its length shows: an estimate from the drawing ("306 ft est."), a measured length, or "—" with what to fix — set the scale, move an icon or a riser onto the blueprint, set a sheet's floor, place a riser, or assign the icon to a rack or panel. A length is never guessed.

The estimate is the right-angle path at the blueprint's scale, through a riser and the floors when the sheets differ, the drop from the ceiling to the icon, and a loop at each end.

Enter a measured length

  1. Select the icon and find the cable in Cables.
  2. A row of up to three cables shows a field for each, right under it, with the estimate greyed inside. A row of more shows their total; choose Length to list each with its Cable ID.
  3. Type the measured length in the workspace's units and press Enter. It replaces the whole installed length, loops at both ends included — measure the cable as it is pulled — and is shown as measured, in the totals too, where the correction is still added on top.
  4. To go back to the estimate, empty the field or choose the cross beside it.

A Cable group's own cables — a link's, loop's or circuit's run, spare and the cable between members, and a line's run — are measured in the Cabling tab: open the group in Groups and choose Length. A speaker on a 70V or 100V line also shows the piece of the line that reaches it, to measure there or in Groups.

A measured length belongs to that cable on its route. Removing the cable, lowering the row's quantity below it, changing where the row goes, sending the icon to another rack or panel or pressing Reset takes the length away with the route, and a riser chosen for the row with it. Undo brings both back.

Mount height

An icon's Mount, in its Placement section, is Ceiling, Wall at a Height above the floor, or Floor. It starts as its type's — a keypad at 48 in, a ceiling speaker at the ceiling — and the drop to it is part of each cable's estimate. Once you change it, the round arrow beside it goes back to its type's.
