How do I…
Add keyed notes
Put numbered notes on the drawing, with their words gathered in a notes table.
Where to find it: Annotations (left edge) › open one › the markup button › Keyed note
A keyed note is a number on the drawing; its words are a row of the notes table.
Add notes
- Open an annotation session and choose Keyed note: the markup button at the end of the tools, which holds Free shape and Cloud too and shows the one you chose last.
- Click where the first number goes.
- On a sheet where this session has no table yet, the bar says Click where the notes table starts — on an iPad, Tap where the notes table starts. Click there. Then it says Click the other side of the table; that click sets the table's width, and its height follows its notes. Cancel or Esc puts the number away.
- Type the note in its row. Enter to finish, or Done.
- Click the next spot: it takes the next number, and you type straight into its row.
Text size in the drawing bar sets the size of the next numbers and of a new table.
Point at something
Hold Option (Alt on Windows) and click the thing the note is about: the tip goes there first. At Click where the number goes, click beside it; the number sits there with a leader to the tip. Drag the number or the tip on its own. Remove pointer in Properties takes the leader away. An iPad or a phone has no Option key, so this needs a keyboard.
Number a cloud or any shape
Select the shape and choose Words › Keyed note on the row above the drawing bar, or under Words in Properties. The number goes beside the shape with a leader, and its row opens in the table.
Change a note
- Click a row in the table to choose its note: a faint line joins the row to its number, so you can find it on a busy drawing. Click it again, or click the chosen number again, to retype it.
- In Properties, Done strikes the note through and greys it, on the drawing and in its row, and keeps its number.
- Change a note's colour and its number in the table changes with it.
- Drag the number or the table anywhere. Delete a number and its row goes with it.
- Paste a note onto a sheet where its session has no table, and a table comes with it.
The table
Select the table for its Title, Width and Text size, and its Notes in order, or drag the handle on either side. A table that reaches the bottom of the drawing area carries on beside itself, titled "(continued)". Drag a row out to split the table into pieces that fit round the blueprint; see Fit a notes table round a blueprint.
Numbers
A new note takes the next number after every note of its session, on any sheet, and no other number changes. While the project's numbers are unlocked, numbers close up when a note is deleted. Once locked, an issued number stays: a deleted note leaves its row crossed out, and past twelve rows the crossed-out ones fold into one line. An issued number is never changed or used again. If some numbers below the highest were never issued, select the table and choose Renumber notes, then confirm: notes not issued yet take those numbers, and Keep numbers leaves them as they are.
Keyed notes print and share like every other mark, and hiding the session hides them. See Cloud an area and Save a version.
