How do I…

Place a riser

See the risers floor by floor, place a shared riser or a rack's or panel's own, add a shaft, change a riser's shaft, and pin a cable to a riser.

Where to find it: right edge › Cabling › Risers › Place riser on this sheet

A riser is where cables come up or down on another floor. Cables from a sheet reach a rack or panel on another sheet only through one: a shared riser of its building, or one of its own.

Once there is a riser, Risers in the Cabling tab shows Riser spots: the building's floors, the top floor first and each named as its sheet is, against every shaft — the shared risers A, B and so on first, then each rack's or panel's own, headed by its Number in its colour. A filled dot means that riser is on that floor: click it to find it on the drawing, or, where two sheets make one floor and each holds it, choose the sheet. A dashed ring means the shaft passes that floor with no riser there; an empty cell, that it does not reach it. Point at a cell to see its name, such as R-1-B on 2nd Floor. The last row counts the cables each one carries, and the sheet in front is marked "this sheet". A sheet with no Floor comes last. With many shafts the grid scrolls sideways and the floors stay put; a job with more than one building has a grid for each.

  1. Go to the sheet the riser goes on.
  2. In Risers, choose Place riser on this sheet, then the letter: the same riser as on other floors, or a new one, which takes the first letter no riser in the building uses.
  3. Click the spot on the drawing where the shaft comes through. Placing stays on, so you can go to the next sheet and click there too.

A shared riser is a grey disc with its letter, labelled Riser A, with arrowheads toward the floors its shaft reaches. Its Properties show its Shaft, which you can change — the way to put right two risers of one letter on a floor — its floor and the cables that go through it, by rack or panel. Move it by dragging and delete it like any device.

A rack's or panel's own riser

When one rack or panel has a shaft of its own, choose Own riser for a rack or panel, then the rack or panel and its letter — or Own riser on this sheet in its ⋯ menu under Racks. It wears its rack's or panel's colour — both halves for a thermostat hub — points toward its floor, and is labelled with its Number: R-1, or R-1-B once it can use another riser too. Its column's chip in Riser spots places it on the sheet in front or selects its rack or panel. A riser's Properties show which way it points and why, and its Shaft, which you can change.

Pin a cable to a riser

Each cable goes through the riser that gives it the shortest run, shared or its rack's or panel's own. When the real route differs, select the icon and, under the cable in its Cables, choose its Riser, such as Riser A or R-1-B; a row of more than three cables keeps it behind Length. Shortest goes back. The choice shows for a rack or panel on another sheet with more than one riser to use.
