How do I…

Give each section of a shade its own motor

A shade drawn in sections with a motor in each becomes that many shades, each with its own number, label and cable card.

Where to find it: select a shade › Properties › Device › Motors › Each section

Draw one shade across a run of windows and give it Sections: with One motor it stays one shade, one motor driving every section.

  1. Select the shade or double shade and open Properties. Sections, Motors and Motor side are in its Device section.
  2. Choose Each section with two or more Sections, or raise Sections on a shade already set to Each section.

Each section becomes a shade of its own, end to end where you drew it, and all of them are selected. Each has one motor on the same Motor side, its own number, label and cable card, and everything else the shade had: its type, product, connection and power, where its cables go. The equipment list and the cable schedule count them as shades.

The first section keeps the shade's number, its Cable IDs, the cables you added by hand and its card where you left it; the others take the next numbers. A shade on your cabling defaults becomes shades that each take the cables a shade placed on its own takes. If you had changed its cables, each motor's go to its shade and the total stays the same. Measured lengths go with their cables, and a card you had dragged to a motor stays where it was. Where two shades meet, the motor is drawn over the other shade's line, so its M shows, on the sheet, in the PDF and in shared presentations — wherever shades meet, however they were drawn. One undo puts the one shade back.

A drapery has one motor, whatever its sections, and stays one drapery.

Select several shades to change their Sections or Motors together: each one left with a motor in two or more sections is split the same way, all in one undo step; see change several devices at once.

A shade drawn before

A shade that already had a motor in each section before this keeps its look: a card at each motor, one number. Under its Motors, Split into 3 shades (its number of sections) splits it the same way. Printed versions keep what they were issued with.

The rest of a shade's settings are described in change a device's details.
