How do I…
Set a shade to wireless
Mark a shade, double shade or drapery as wireless on a battery or an outlet, place them wireless from the start, and place the Lutron wireless processor they talk to.
Where to find it: select a shade › Properties › Device › Connection; to place them wireless, Palette › Equipment › Window treatments › Wireless
Every shade, double shade and drapery starts wired: in a US workspace its motors take a Lutron shade wire from its rack or panel. A wireless one is controlled over the air by a Lutron wireless processor (LW) and needs no control wire.
- Select the device and open Properties. Connection is in its Device section, under Type.
- Choose Wireless. Each motor is drawn with the wireless fan in place of M, on the sheet, in the PDF and in shared presentations. It keeps its number: wired and wireless shades are counted together. Equipment, the legend and the CSV list wireless ones on a row of their own, such as "Shade · Wireless".
- Power shows under it: Battery, the default, or Outlet 120 V — an outlet at the shade; a European workspace reads 230 V.
A wireless shade takes no cable by default. Where its cables would be, it says how it is powered: its cable card reads Battery or Outlet 120 V, its Cables in Cabling read Battery powered · no cables or that it plugs into an outlet, and the cable schedule prints one note line for it in its rack's or panel's section — no Cable ID, no length and nothing in the totals. An outlet's note is written for the electrician, who puts the outlet at the shade. The cable CSV lists the same notes as rows of their own.
You can still add any cable with Add, an 18/2 from a power panel for example; see change an icon's cables. Its card then shows the cable. Power on the card, under its cables, shows the power beside the cable as well. Reset takes the added cables away again. To give every new wireless shade a cable, an Owner sets the shade's Wireless rows in the cabling defaults.
To place a whole room wireless, choose Wireless at the top of Window treatments in the palette. The shades there are drawn starting at a motor with the fan, and every one you place starts wireless, on a battery. Your choice is remembered in this browser; Wired places them as before.
The first wireless shade on a sheet with no LW asks Place a Lutron wireless processor?. Place LW puts one where you click next; Not now leaves it. It asks once a sheet, and again only when no other wireless shade is left on that sheet. LW is in the palette's Lighting control group too. Its own cable is a Cat6 to the main rack, and nothing is cabled to it.
Choosing Wired again takes Power and Power on the card away with it. The rest of a device's settings are in the same panel; see change a device's details.
