How do I…

Move, resize or clean up a blueprint

Edit a blueprint's position, size, opacity and rotation, erase clutter, replace or remove it.

Where to find it: Properties (nothing selected) › Sheet › Blueprints › the pencil beside the blueprint

The pencil opens the blueprint's own controls in Properties.

  • Rename: click its name at the top.
  • Move: drag it, and the drawing on it goes with it. Move blueprint alone moves the image only.
  • Resize: drag a corner handle, or use the Size slider or the Fit, Comfortable and Spacious spacing buttons. All stop at 100%, the largest the sheet prints, and the drawing on it resizes with it.
  • Opacity: the Opacity slider. Sliders save once, when let go.
  • Rotate: Rotate left and Rotate right turn it and its drawing a quarter.
  • Prepare: Prepare blueprint cleans up the page, sets its scale and marks its rooms; see prepare a blueprint.
  • Grey: Monochrome blueprint turns it grey on screen and in every print. A vector blueprint prints grey from its own page, still sharp.
  • Full quality: Re-import at full quality reads a PDF blueprint's page again, so it prints as lines. See below.
  • Screen only: the invert button darkens it while you work, never what prints.
  • Replace: Replace blueprint, at the bottom, brings in a revised page in its place. Devices stay put; the page comes in with Move blueprint alone on, to line it up under them.
  • Remove: Delete, in the ⋯ at the top, or the bin in the Blueprints list, deletes the image and keeps every device.

Close the controls with the × at the top. Blueprints cannot be locked.

How sharp it will print

Beside Size is the resolution the blueprint prints at on this sheet, such as 111 dpi. A scan holds a fixed number of dots, so making it bigger spreads them thinner. Line drawings look sharp from about 200 dpi. Below 150 it turns amber, below 100 red: make it smaller, or upload the page again larger.

A vector blueprint prints its own lines, so the number beside Size describes the screen, not the print, and never turns amber or red.

Re-import at full quality

A PDF blueprint that prints from pixels offers Re-import at full quality, under Set scale. It reads the page again and, if it is drawn as lines, prints it as lines. If it will not read again it says This page couldn’t be prepared. Try exporting it from your PDF app as a single page, or as a PNG., and nothing changes.

The whole page comes back, because an earlier clean-up was not written down anywhere. The confirm lists what to redo: the clean-up, a quarter turn if you had turned it, and the scale if it had one. Position, size and Monochrome are kept, and if the page turns out to be a picture nothing changes at all.

Clean-up

Clean-up is saved when you leave the Clean up step; Undo takes it back at once.

Cleaning up a vector blueprint writes down what was erased so it survives into print. If that cannot be saved, here or later at the server, the clean-up happens anyway and the blueprint prints from its pixels; the clean-up screen or the sync status says so.

What hiding does, and what it does not

Cropping and erasing hide parts of a page; they take nothing out of the file you uploaded. On a vector blueprint the hidden parts are covered, not removed, in every PDF made from it, the one a share link offers included, so someone with a PDF editor could reach them. the Clean up step says so in one grey line on a vector blueprint.
