How do I…

Apply cables to all icons of a type

Give every camera, TV or speaker of one setting the cables one icon has, or take your company's defaults again, from one list with the icons you changed by hand left out.

Where to find it: click an icon › Properties › Cabling › Cables › Apply to all, or right edge › Cabling › the gear › Project settings › Update to company defaults…

Each project keeps its own copy of your company's cabling defaults. Two lists change that copy and the icons that follow it.

Apply to all

  1. Change the cables of one icon, such as a camera to two Cat6.
  2. Choose Apply to all under its cables, for example "Apply to all cameras…". It shows once the project has more than one icon of that type and setting.
  3. The list shows only icons of the same type and setting — a powered speaker is never listed with passive ones — grouped by variant, each group with a line that ticks or unticks all of it. Icons still on the defaults are ticked. Icons changed by hand, even only put in another order, start unticked and are marked changed. The two speakers of a pair share one cable and are listed together: tick both to update it, or neither. Each line shows the cables the icon has now.
  4. Choose the button that counts them, such as "Apply to 3 cameras". The project's defaults for that type take the new cables, in the order your icon shows them; ticked icons follow them, in that order; unticked icons keep what they had.

The list is the one you ticked: if anything on it changes before you choose — a colleague edits one of the icons, one is placed, or the source's own cables change — nothing is written, the dialog says "The list changed — look again." and shows the list as it is now. An icon whose group is locked wears a padlock; while your ticks would change one, the button waits and says which group to unlock. A locked icon changed by hand can simply be left unticked.

A cable pinned to a particular rack or panel or icon cannot be a default: the others take it to their own rack or panel, and the icon you started from keeps its own.

Update to company defaults

When your company's defaults change, a project keeps its copy until you take them again. Open Project settings with the gear at the top of the Cabling tab and choose Update to company defaults….

The list shows, for each type and setting whose cables your company's table changes, the icons of it on this project, ticked and marked as Apply to all's are; tick the ones that should take the new cables, then choose Update. The rest of the copy is taken again whatever you tick: each icon type's mount height, the loops, the heights, the correction, the conductor colours, the kinds of rack and panel and the group settings.

A project that took its defaults under the other standard says so at the top of Project settings, with Use European default cables or Use US default cables: the same list, taking the standard's table.

Either one is a single undo step. Both wait until the open project is up to date with the server, so a copy saved on this device never overwrites a colleague's newer one.
