How do I…

Place the compass

Add a north arrow to a sheet and turn it to match the building.

Where to find it: Palette (left edge) › Plan tools › Compass

  1. Open Palette and choose the Plan tools tab.
  2. Choose Compass, then click on the sheet where it goes. It is placed and selected, and the Properties tab flashes. Done puts the tool down without placing one. A sheet has one compass: placing it again moves it.
  3. With the compass selected, Properties › Placement offers its X and Y position, North to point it — a quarter turn or any angle typed beside them — and Size. Its ⋯ holds Default size, Fit to sheet and Delete.

On the sheet, drag the round handle to turn it and the square one to size it. The compass is for orientation only; it does not change aims or scale.

Turning the sheet's only blueprint a quarter turns the compass with it, where it stands; see turn a blueprint. Moving or resizing a blueprint leaves it where it is.

Show, hide or lock the plan tools

In Annotations, the compass and the scale bar are listed together under Plan tools, after the sessions, with how many there are. That row's eye hides every plan tool in the active View; saved View settings control newly generated output. Share links change only after publishing an update. Its padlock locks them all for everyone. Open the row for each tool's own eye and padlock; choose a tool's name to select it on its sheet.
