How do I…

Copy, duplicate or delete devices

Work on several devices at once, paste onto another sheet, and decide what happens to numbers.

Where to find it: select the devices › Properties › ⋯ (More actions) › Copy, Duplicate or Delete selected

Select

Drag a box around devices, or hold Shift and click each one. Properties shows how many are selected and of what, the ⋯ at the top of it holds what you can do to them all, and under it is every setting they share, their rack or panel and their cables; see change several devices at once. For one device the same ⋯ holds Copy, Duplicate and Delete. Beside the ⋯, Replace… swaps the chosen devices for another type; it is in the ⋯ too. Devices of a locked group are passed over, and cannot be duplicated, pasted or deleted until the group is unlocked; copying them is allowed. The box takes annotation marks too, and they move, copy and delete with the devices; see Select a mark, or marks and devices together. To line them up or space them evenly, see line up and space devices evenly.

Copy to another sheet

Choose Copy (⌘C), go to the other sheet, and choose Paste copied objects at the left of the bottom toolbar (⌘V).

Duplicate on the same sheet

Choose Duplicate (⌘D). The copies get new numbers.

Copies keep the rack or panel their cables run to. A copied rack or panel is a new, empty one named "… copy" with its own Number; it is never the main one. A copied riser stays in its shaft — a shared one keeps its letter, an own one its rack or panel; on a sheet that already has that shaft it is left out, and the paste says so.

Delete

Choose Delete selected, or press Delete. Deleting a rack or panel that icons go to first asks where they go instead; see Set up racks and panels.

While the project's numbers are unlocked, the remaining numbers close up at once: delete SP-5 and SP-6 becomes SP-5. Nothing asks.

While they are locked, deleting numbered devices opens Delete numbered icons:

  • Keep existing numbers leaves the other numbers alone and adds markers such as SP-4 (5, 6). Nothing is saved.
  • Close numbering gaps renumbers the remaining devices of those types and saves a revision.

Undo brings deleted devices back into the drawing; a revision already saved stays in the version history. See also close numbering gaps.
