How do I…
Bring something to front or send it to back
Put an icon over a note, or a note under the icons, and keep that order everywhere — on every screen, in a PDF and on a share page.
Where to find it: the drawing › right-click the item — or hold a finger on it — and press Bring to front or Send to back on its line
Everything drawn on a sheet stands in one stack: every icon and every mark of every session, one above the other. A note drawn over a screen sits on the screen until you move one of them. These two buttons move it.
Move one thing
- Right-click the item on the drawing. On an iPad, hold a finger on it for about half a second.
- The list of what is under there opens, topmost first.
- On that item's line, press Bring to front or Send to back.
The list stays open and the line moves to where the item now stands, so you can press again — or move something else — without opening it twice.
Bring to front puts it above everything else on the sheet, icons and marks alike. Send to back puts it beneath everything, except the blueprint and the connection lines, which are always underneath.
Move several things together
Select them first — a box, Shift and click, or ⌘A — then use the button on any one of the selected items, or the keyboard:
| Keys | Action |
|---|---|
| ⌘ ] | Bring to front |
| ⌘ [ | Send to back |
Ctrl on Windows; on a layout where a bracket needs Option or AltGr, use it as you normally would to type one. The whole selection moves as one block and keeps the order it already had among itself, and one press is one undo. Anything hidden is left out, even while it is still selected.
What it does not touch
- The compass has no place in the stack, so its line carries no reorder buttons.
- A copy lands where anything new lands: marks above icons.
- Changing a device's type keeps its place — the new icon stands exactly where the old one did.
- A lock does not stop a reorder. A lock holds a group's position and content; stacking is neither. See Lock a group.
- Members who can only view see no reorder buttons; see roles.
Where the order shows
Everywhere. It is saved in the plan, so it is the same on your laptop and on the iPad, in the version you issue next, in its PDF and on a share page. Versions already issued never change.
Hiding something does not take it out of the stack: what is on top is still on top when you show it again.
More keys are in keyboard shortcuts, or press ? on the drawing.
