How do I…

Change an icon's cables

The Cables section of an icon's Properties — each cable's type, how many, where it goes and a note — with Reset, Check and a wire drop's cables.

Where to find it: click the icon › Properties › Cabling › Cables

Every icon starts with the cables your company's cabling defaults give its type and setting — a TV three Cat6. Cables, in its Cabling section, lists them as cable runs, one row each, once the project has a rack or panel; its outlet is a Power row.

Change a row

Each row shows its cable, how many, and where it goes.

  • The cable: choose another. The list offers your workspace's standard's cables by use, then your company's own; see add a company cable type.
  • Minus and plus change how many run, 1 to 100.
  • Where it goes:
    • Its rack or panel follows the one the icon is sent to, and moves with it. New icons use it.
    • A rack or panel under Racks & panels, by its Number such as R-2, keeps the cable there whatever the icon's own is, such as a speaker wired to a second rack.
    • An icon… lets you click the icon it runs to, such as a volume control, on any sheet. Cancel or Escape stops without a change.
    • A Cable group lists the groups the row can join: a keypad's links, a fire alarm device's loops or circuits; for a 70V or 100V speaker only the line of its zone, and for an 8Ω subwoofer outside every line's zone the lines. See Cable groups.
    • Off plan… asks where it goes, such as an air handler; it has no length.
    • No cable keeps the row, running nothing.
  • The row's ⋯ holds Add a note, Move up, Move down and Remove cable. Add adds a row.

A wireless shade starts with none: Battery powered · no cables.

Each change is one undo step. A temp sensor near a thermostat already runs to it (→ T-2), a projection screen's trigger to the nearest projector. A shade drawn before with a motor in each section has a cable and card at each motor. A rack's or panel's own rows are its Backbone cables; see set a rack's or panel's backbone cables. Replacing an icon points every cable that runs to it at the replacement, which waits while such a cable's icon is locked.

To reorder the rows, see put an icon's cables in order; for several icons, select them.

Changed, Reset and Check

Once its rows or their order are its own, Cables shows Changed. Reset puts the icon back on the defaults, as does coming back to exactly them by hand.

If a changed icon changes under its rows — sent to another rack or panel, set to another setting such as powered, given another surround position or pair partner, or its cable's conductors change — it shows Check its cables with the reason. Reset takes the defaults; Keep keeps your rows as they are.

Warnings show in red; some have a one-step fix, like moving a speaker into its volume control's zone; most can be ignored. A paired speaker's own settings are in wire speakers as pairs.

Wire drops

A wire drop has no rows: its Quantity in Properties is its cables, all to its rack or panel, shown in Cables as they count.

To give every icon of a type the same cables, see apply cables to all icons of a type.

On the drawing the icon's cables show in its cable card. Once you have dragged the card, Reset card position in the ⋯ beside Cables puts it back; see move a cable card.

Under each cable is its length — estimated, measured, or what to fix; see enter a measured length.
