How do I…

Draw LED tape

Click where the tape starts, each corner, then double-click or press Enter. Its length, feeds and the drivers it needs are worked out for you.

Where to find it: Palette › Equipment › Lighting

LED tape is an amber line with dots showing where each run goes. It is numbered LED-1, LED-2 and so on, and on a sheet with a scale its label carries its length: LED-1 · 19'-3".

  1. Click LED tape. The Placing bar holds three choices for the runs you draw: the Tape, its Use (below), and its Max run, the longest run one feed may power. Auto takes the tape's own: 16'-5" for Lumaris and for Generic tape at 24 V, 8'-2" for Generic at 12 V. Custom… lets you type one, like 10' 4" or 3.2 m.
  2. Click where the tape starts, then each corner, round a cove or along the cabinets. As you go, each side shows its length and the whole run's length follows the pointer, as with Measure. Feeds mark each end and max run. Without a scale, length is unknown.
  3. Double-click the last spot, press Enter, or press Done, to finish. Backspace takes back the last click; Esc finishes where you are, or lets go if there is no end yet.
  4. To change a run, select it: drag its start, its end or any corner; double-click a corner to take it out. To curve a corner, pull the small round handle inside it into the turn; push it back to make the corner sharp again. To move a feed, drag its ring along the tape: never so far from the feed before it that their section passes the max run, and the feeds after it fall again from where you put it. The feeds at its ends stay there.
  5. In Properties: the Use; the Tape, with Watts per foot and Volts for Generic tape; the Max run, Auto, a usual length, or Custom to type the one on the tape's spec sheet, as 10' 4", 124" or 3.2 m; its Length, its Sections between feeds, the end it is Fed from, and its Load, its watts and how many 96 W drivers they need; each corner's radius, with Sharp to put a curved corner back; and Reset feeds once a feed was moved.

The Use says what the run is for: General, the tape as it always was, Under-cabinet, Cove, Toe-kick, Step or Shelf. It is part of the number: LED/UC-1, LED/COV-1, LED/TK-1, LED/STP-1, LED/SHF-1, while General stays LED-1. Each use is counted on its own, so changing a run's use renumbers it; select several runs to change them together. The equipment list has a row for each use.

The Tape supplies its numbers. Lumaris uses Lutron’s: 1.9 W per foot for Tunable White, 2.9 for RGB + Tunable White, 24 V, 16'-5" per feed, up to 96 W of tape on one power interface, and 3 or 6 wires from its controller. Generic tape takes the watts and volts you type, and is loaded to 80% of a driver.

Driver (PS) and Controller (TC) are in the same part of Lighting, with the Wire tool at its end: the box that powers the tape, and the box that dims or tunes it. Place them where they go, like any device, and set the Watts each can deliver in Properties. Then wire the tape to them. The equipment list shows each run's length and the total for the type.

Share includes LED tape schedule: run labels and lengths by sheet, subtotals and a total. Its eye excludes it. See PDF for visibility, units and unknown lengths, or share a link.
