How do I…

Set your company's cabling defaults

An Owner sets the cables each icon starts with, mount heights, loops, conductor colours, kinds of rack and panel and group limits that every new project copies.

Where to find it: Settings › Workspace › Cabling defaults

Cabling defaults are which cables a newly placed icon carries, where they run, and the numbers every length estimate uses. Every member can read them; only an Owner changes them.

The table is your workspace's standard's, US or European; each standard keeps its own, so switching back brings yours back. The European one uses metres, mm² speaker cable, 75Ω coax, KNX, YTDY and European fire alarm cable. Type lists offer only the standard's types, by use, then your company's own; a row keeps a type it already uses.

The shipped tables give every icon that carries cables its rows and mount height: fire devices on loops and circuits at the Fire panel (wire fire alarm devices), leak sensors to the Alarm panel, wired shades a cable per motor (none in Europe, where their motors are mains) and wireless ones and tabletop touchscreens none, and racks and panels their backbone cables. Anything your company never set takes a newly shipped default, marked Shipped; yours stay.

  1. Open Settings from the account menu and choose Workspace.
  2. Scroll to Cabling defaults and pick a part:
    • Cables: for each icon and setting — Passive, Powered, 70V, 100V, Stereo, Passive L C R, Passive L R, Passive C, a shade's Wired and Wireless — its cable rows. A camera, with no other setting, shows a dash. Each row is a quantity, a cable type and where it goes: Its rack or panel, a Keypad link, a Constant-voltage line, a Fire alarm loop (SLC), a Notification circuit (NAC), the Nearest Lutron processor, Off plan (named, with no length) or No cable. A passive speaker also has When paired, the cable it takes when it is the side of a pair the cable enters. Plus adds a cable, minus removes one; Add icon starts rows for an icon or setting the table does not list yet.
    • Mount heights: Ceiling, Floor or a Height for each icon. An icon that is not listed is in the ceiling. Wire drops sets every cable drop at once.
    • Heights and loops: Floor to floor, Ceiling height, the Loop at the rack or panel and the Loop at the icon, and the purchasing Correction added on top of installed lengths.
    • Conductors: the colours of Left +, Left −, Right + and Right − on a pair's shared cable. Each needs its own colour.
    • Racks & panels: the kinds a rack or panel can be, with their names, and each kind's Backbone: the cables one of that kind starts with, From the main (rack or enclosure). Add kind adds your own kind; nothing is sent to it by default: use Properties or Assign.
    • Groups: the cable of Keypad links, Constant-voltage lines, Fire alarm loops (SLC) and Notification circuits (NAC), Your company's limit of members, an optional Maximum length, the Spare run to the rack or panel, a loop's or circuit's Class A return to the panel and the line Voltage.
  3. Choose Save cabling defaults. Discard changes puts back what was saved.

Values show in your workspace's units; one that does not read is marked and blocks the save.

If someone else saved meanwhile, your save is refused; Reload latest defaults loads theirs.

Reset to shipped table returns this standard's table to the shipped one; confirm with Reset. The other standard's table is kept.

A new project takes a copy when it is created; an existing one keeps its copy until someone updates it to the company defaults, so a change here, new shipped defaults included, never rewrites a drawing behind your back.
