How do I…

Renumber in the order you click

Click the icon that should be number 1, then the rest of its type in the order you want.

Where to find it: Properties (nothing selected) › Project › Numbering › Renumber… › Click in order, then click on the drawing

When position alone does not give the order you want, such as speakers along a hallway or keypads in the order the crew walks the house, number one type by clicking its icons:

  1. Click an empty spot so nothing is selected, and open Properties › Project.
  2. Under Numbering choose Renumber…, then Click in order. The card at the bottom says Renumbering and asks you to click the icon that should be number 1.
  3. Click or tap that icon. It becomes number 1, and its type is the one you renumber: a stereo speaker renumbers SP/ST, a keypad KP. Only that type's icons stay on the drawing; notes, other marks, cable cards and conduits are hidden until you finish.
  4. Click the rest one by one. Each label shows its new number at once, and the card shows the number the next click gives. To take one back, click the last one again; taking back number 1 lets you pick again. The two speakers of a pair take one number from either speaker. You can move to another sheet; the count carries on.
  5. Choose Done. Icons you did not click are numbered after the ones you did, by position. Cancel, or Esc, changes nothing.

If the card says the drawing is receiving saved changes, nothing was changed: choose Done again in a moment.

Only that type's numbers change. While the project's numbers are unlocked, that is one edit: no revision is saved, and undo takes them back in one step. While they are locked, Done asks first and saves a new revision with Renumber & save revision. The revision holds the new numbers, so undo no longer changes them; renumber again to change them. Earlier versions keep their numbers, and Cable IDs take their icon's new number.
