How do I…
Change a device's details
What a device is, where it sits and points, and what is bought, in the sections of Properties when a device is selected.
Where to find it: click the device › Properties (right edge)
Select one device, or several, and Properties shows it. At the top are its picture, its number and what it is, then its work status. Under them are four sections, always in this order, and a section a device does not have is left out:
- Device — what it is: Variant; a Type for a shade (Single or Double), a drapery (Regular or Corner) or a rack (Rack or Enclosure); a shade's or drapery's Connection (Wired or Wireless) and a wireless one's Power (Battery or an outlet; see set a shade to wireless); a soundbar's Channels and Power (see add a soundbar); Size for a TV; Mount type for a display (lifts and swing arms); Power for a speaker (Powered, 8Ω or 70V; see set a speaker to powered or 70V); Connection and Power for a keypad, dimmer, switch or other wall control (see place a keypad, dimmer or switch); Stereo; Quantity; a shade's Sections, Motors and Motor side; and its Fill colour.
- Placement — where it sits and points: Mount and its height, Rotation, Aim for a camera with Coverage and Reach (a motion detector draws its coverage with Direction sketch), View distance or Wi-Fi reach for a coverage field, Surround for a speaker in a surround system, Paired for a soundbar and its display, and Label.
- Cabling — where its cables go; see change an icon's cables.
- Product — Manufacturer, Model and Part number, which override the library's product data for this device (leave one blank to keep the library's), and Network, which marks that it needs a network port.
Click a section's title to open or close it. A closed section shows its values on its title line, and a red count when something needs fixing. Which sections you keep open is remembered in this browser.
Turning a device
A shade's Type makes it the other kind, SH or DS: it keeps its place, ends, sections and motors, and takes the next number in that kind's count, as Replace… does. A drapery's Type shows the shape it is drawn with, and Equipment and the legend list it that way. Rotation turns it: 0°, 90°, 180° or 270°, or any angle typed beside them; the arrow keys turn it by 1°, with Shift by 15°. Every device has it but a shade or drapery, whose ends set its direction, a riser, and a camera or motion detector, which turn by Aim and its handle. Dragging the round handle off a selected device does the same: inside the dotted ring it snaps every 15°, outside it turns freely, and Shift snaps to 45°. Its letters turn with it, never upside down; a round icon keeps them level.
Its label
A label moves out of the way on its own (Auto): below its device, a TV's on its mount side, and to a free side of its own icon when that spot would cover another icon or label. A shade's or drapery's label stands by its first motor. The four arrows pin it to one side; Auto lets it move again. Printed versions keep the sides they were issued with.
Actions
The header's icons connect it to other devices, draw a conduit from it and, beside the ⋯, swap its type with Replace…, which keeps the position: a Generic Fixture becomes a specific light, and a surround placeholder the speaker you choose, keeping its surround position. The ⋯ holds Copy, Duplicate, Replace… and Delete; see copy, duplicate or delete devices. × lets it go.
