How do I…
Duplicate a project
Copy a project's drawing into a new project, with the client and address left empty.
Where to find it: Home › the project's row › the Actions button › Duplicate
Two houses built to the same plan, a second phase of the same job, a drawing you want to try something on without touching the original — a copy is a separate project that starts as an exact copy of the drawing.
- On Home, choose the Actions button (…) at the end of the project's row.
- Choose Duplicate. The Duplicate project form opens with the name already filled in: the old name followed by "(Duplicate)". Change it to whatever you like.
- The client and the address are empty. Pick existing ones, add new ones, or leave them — exactly as when you create a project.
- Choose Duplicate. The copy opens.
What comes with it
Everything on the drawing: every sheet, every blueprint with its crop and clean-up, every device with its settings and its number, the wiring, the annotations and their sessions, your saved views, the locks, the scale and the paper and title-block settings.
What does not
- Issued versions and the PDFs kept with them. The copy has no versions, so its numbers start unlocked; lock them again before labels go on.
- The share link. The copy has none until you publish one.
- Undo history and the record of who changed what.
- The client and the address, which you add or skip above.
Worth knowing
The copy is made from the drawing as the server has it. If another tab is offline with changes it has not sent yet, those are not in the copy — see saving and sync.
A copy is a project of its own and counts toward the Free plan's one project (see plans), and its blueprint files are stored again, so they count again toward the workspace's file allowance. On Free, a project with more than 5 sheets cannot be copied either. Whenever there is no room the copy is refused and nothing is created.
To get rid of a copy you no longer want, delete it.
From a link in another app
Another of your company's systems can link straight to a project's Duplicate. The link switches to the project's workspace, if you are a member, and opens the Duplicate project form for it. Nothing is copied until you choose Duplicate. If you can only view that workspace, Home says "Only Owners and Editors can do this." instead. Signed out, you sign in first and then follow the link again.
