How do I…
Renumber cables
Start Cable IDs afresh in a project whose numbers are locked, with a new version. Unlocked, they close up on their own.
Where to find it: right edge › Cabling › the gear › Project settings › Cable IDs › Renumber cables
While the project's numbers are unlocked, there is nothing to renumber: deleting a cable closes the gap in its icon's Cable IDs on its own, on screen and in every new print. Under Cable IDs, Project settings says so instead of offering Renumber cables.
Once the numbers are locked, Cable IDs follow the rule Numbers follow: a removed ID shows in brackets and is never reused, so deleting cables leaves gaps such as TV-2.1, TV-2.3. Labels may already be on pulled cables, so renumbering is a fresh start:
- Open Project settings with the gear at the top of the Cabling tab, and under Cable IDs choose Renumber cables. The dialog warns that labels on pulled cables will no longer match.
- Choose Renumber all. Every cable gets a new ID, counted from 1 for each icon, and a new version named "Renumber cables" is saved.
If the version cannot be saved, or another member issued one while the dialog was open, nothing changes and you can try again. Earlier versions keep their Cable IDs, and their PDFs are unchanged. See close numbering gaps for device Numbers.
