How do I…

Assign icons to a rack or panel

Where a new icon's cables go, the questions a first icon asks, and how to send icons to another rack or panel — from Properties, the right-click menu or Assign.

Where to find it: select the icons › Properties › Cabling › Sends to, right-click › Send to, or right edge › Cabling › Racks › Assign

Every icon you place stores the rack or panel its cables run to: its own kind's rack or panel — shades to the Shade panel, alarm sensors to the Alarm panel, keypads and lighting to the Lighting panel, door locks, readers and exit buttons to the door hub, fire devices to the Fire panel — and everything else to the main one. With two of one kind, it goes to the first one placed. Nothing moves it afterwards unless you do.

The first icons ask

Each question is asked once per project, whoever places the icon; the first three again once every icon that asks them is gone:

  • The first icon with cables, with no rack or panel at all, asks Add a main rack or enclosure? Choose Main rack or In-wall enclosure, then click where it goes: that icon and every one placed so far go to it. No, leave it not assigned leaves them under Not assigned.
  • A Lutron keypad, Lighting panel or Shade panel with no Lutron processor asks Place a Lutron processor?: Place processor or Not now. A panel's keypad wire is Not assigned until there is one.
  • The first wired shade with no Shade panel or processor asks What do the shades go to?: Shade panel, Lutron processor (used as a rack or panel) or Not now. Later shades go to it too. A wireless shade asks for a Lutron wireless processor instead.
  • The first icon whose kind of rack or panel is missing asks, for example, "Add a Lighting panel?". Yes places it and sends that icon to it; No leaves it on the main one.
  • The first temp sensor with no thermostat and no thermostat hub asks where it runs: Add a thermostat, Add a thermostat hub, or No.
  • The first rack, or an enclosure placed as main, offers to connect the icons already there; a later one starts empty.
  • A kind's first rack or panel placed after its icons offers to move them to it, such as "Move 12 shades to Shade panel?".

Send to

Select one icon or several. In Properties, the Sends to row shows where they go — each with how many when they differ. Choose it, then a rack or panel, such as R-2, Not assigned, or an icon or Off plan. Right-click an icon for its racks and panels under Send to; if the icon is part of your selection, the whole selection goes. A rack or panel, a riser or an outlet is not sent.

Assign

In the Cabling tab's Racks, choose Assign on a rack's or panel's row (or Assign icons in its Properties). While it is on, every icon wears a ring in its rack's or panel's colour. Point at an icon to preview it in this one's colour, click it to send it there, or drag a box to send everything inside. Each click or box is one undo step. Press Escape or choose Done — on the row or above the drawing — to finish.

A drawing from before cabling

Icons drawn before racks and panels existed are listed as not assigned, and Racks offers a button that connects them all to the main one. Connect all icons to this rack, in a rack's ⋯ menu, does the same for that rack: each icon goes to its own kind's rack or panel where there is one, and the rest to the rack.
