How do I…

Select something underneath

Right-click or hold a finger on a crowded spot to see everything under it by name, and choose the one you meant.

Where to find it: the drawing › right-click the spot — or hold a finger on it — with Select or Pan

In a busy room the thing on top takes the click, and a note drawn over a screen, three speakers and a subwoofer leaves you clicking the note again and again. Ask the drawing what is there instead.

See what is under the pointer

  1. Choose Select or Pan on the bottom toolbar.
  2. Right-click the spot. On an iPad, hold a finger on it for about half a second.
  3. A short list opens under Under the pointer, naming everything you can see there — topmost first, the way they are stacked.

Point at a line and that item is outlined on the sheet, so you can tell two speakers apart before choosing. Click its name and it is selected exactly as if you had clicked it on the drawing: its row shows itself in Equipment or Annotations, and a mark makes its session the one you are drawing in.

Devices are named by their number and their kind, marks by what they are and the session they belong to.

What the list leaves out

Anything you cannot see: a hidden session, a set a saved view hides, a hidden system, a device the work-status filter leaves out, anything on another sheet. Where there is nothing at all, nothing opens.

Locked things are listed too

Finding something locked is allowed, and it is how you reach what lies beneath it. Choose a locked device and it is outlined on the drawing with its details in Properties, read-only, with the reason and Unlock just under its title. Choose a locked mark and it is outlined, and one padlock turns amber for a moment to say which one unlocks it: its session's own in Annotations when that list is open in front of you, and otherwise the Annotations tab itself.

Reorder a line without leaving the drawing

Every line carries two small buttons on its right, acting on that line: Bring to front and Send to back move that item — or the whole selection, if the item is part of one — through the sheet's stack. See Bring something to front or send it to back. Rest the pointer on one and it says what it will do.

Right-click one of two or more selected icons and Arrange follows the list; see line up and space devices evenly.

There is nothing else on a line. Locking and hiding are done from the rows in Equipment and Annotations; see Lock a group.

A reorder leaves the list open, so you can press again, and the row moves to where the item now stands. A line whose item a colleague has just hidden or deleted does nothing, and goes; the list closes when nothing is left. Members who can only view get the list and no buttons.

With the keyboard: up and down move between lines, left and right across a line's two buttons, Enter or Space presses one.

When it does not open

The list belongs to Select and Pan. With a drawing tool, the eraser, an icon being placed, a scale being measured or a connection being made, no list opens: the press goes on doing what that tool does. On a touch screen a second finger always wins — start a pinch and the list gives way to it.

The browser's own right-click menu never appears over the drawing, whichever tool you have. Everywhere else in the app it behaves as usual.
