How do I…
Set up racks and panels
Place racks and panels, name them and give them a capacity, choose the main rack or enclosure, switch a rack and an enclosure, use equipment as a rack or panel, and delete one.
Where to find it: right edge › Cabling › Racks
A rack or panel is where cables run back to. Place one as you place any device: a rack, an in-wall enclosure, a shade, alarm, lighting or fire panel, the door hub or a thermostat hub. In the Cabling tab, Racks has Add rack or panel — click where it goes — and, before the first, Place a main rack or Place an in-wall enclosure; until then only Racks works.
Racks has a row per rack or panel, the main one first with a star: its Number such as R-1, its name, the cables arriving — against its capacity when it has one, in red when there are more — and under them its kind and how many icons go to it. Click a row to list its icons, and one of them to find it. Icons with no rack or panel are under Not assigned; the total below opens Totals (read the totals).
Name and capacity
Select it, or choose Select its icon in its row's ⋯. Its Properties › Cabling shows:
- Name: Rename on its row does the same.
- Capacity: how many cables it takes. Going over warns, on its row and under Totals, but refuses nothing. A thermostat hub Holds thermostats instead.
- Icons: how many, and Assign icons.
It shows in its icon's colour, a thermostat hub in red and blue; its Fill recolours it, its own risers, cable cards and schedule.
Backbone cables
Its Cabling section ends with Backbone cables: the cables it runs itself, such as a Local rack's three Cat6 and fiber to the main one, shown on its cable card. See set a rack's or panel's backbone cables.
The main rack or enclosure
Icons whose own kind of rack or panel does not exist go to the main one: the rack or enclosure chosen at the first icon's question or with Place an in-wall enclosure, else the first rack, until Make main, in its row's or its Properties' ⋯, chooses another. A rack named Main rack or Local rack is renamed to match; your own name stays. To make a rack an enclosure or back, switch them.
Equipment as a rack or panel
A network switch, video recorder, patch panel or Lutron processor has Use as rack or panel in its Properties › Cabling. Switched on, it is a rack or panel of its own, never main, and gets the icons you send to it; with no Shade panel, new shades go to a Lutron processor used as one. Switched off with icons, it asks where they go, as deleting does.
Delete a rack or panel
Delete it as any device, or with Delete rack or panel… in its ⋯. If icons go to it, choose Move its icons to another rack or panel — the main one, or the next main, is already chosen — or Leave them Not assigned. Deleting the main one also asks what is Main from now on. One undo undoes it all.
A copy is a new, empty one named "… copy", never main. Cables from other floors reach it through a shared riser or its own.
Project settings
The gear at the top of the tab opens Project settings; the arrow beside its title comes back. Cable cards, beside the gear, shows or hides them. Project settings holds this project's Loop at the rack or panel, Loop at the icon, Floor to floor, Ceiling height and Correction, copied from your company's cabling defaults; Update to company defaults… takes those again. Under Cable IDs is Renumber cables once numbers are locked. A sheet can have its own heights.
