How do I…
Place a gang box
Place two to six wall controls on one faceplate in one step, and move, turn, copy or delete them as one.
Where to find it: Palette › Equipment › Lighting control › Dimmer box or Keypad box; for one already placed, select a gang › Properties › Device › Gang box
A gang box is wall controls that share one faceplate: a keypad beside two dimmers, say. Each gang is still a device of its own, with its own number, Equipment row, cables and place on a keypad link.
Build and place it
- In Lighting control, click Keypad box, the first tile of the panelized (wired) part, or Dimmer box, the first of the wireless part. Keypad box starts as two wired keypads, Dimmer box as two dimmers.
- Set Gangs, from 2 to 6; each gang added is another of the box's kind. Choose what each gang is; the list puts the box's own side first, wired or wireless, and the other after a line: Keypad · wired, Keypad · wireless, Dimmer, Switch, Keypad dimmer, Fan control or Companion. The picture shows the box as it will be drawn.
- Click Place on plan, then click where the box goes. The whole box goes down in one step, and one undo takes it away. Cancel on the placing card places nothing.
A wired keypad in the same box as a wireless device, on 120 V or a battery, shows a warning in the builder and under the Gang box row. Wireless devices share a box together without one.
The gangs sit side by side inside one grey outline, the faceplate. Their numbers are in the box's label card, a table like a cable card with a line to the faceplate: a row for each gang, numbered 1 to 6 from the box's start, with its label and its cable. Gangs on one keypad link share a block, and gangs on 120 V share another. The labels follow the sheet's label settings, and a View that hides cable cards still shows them.
Change it
Dragging, turning, copying, duplicating or deleting any gang does the same to the whole box; a gang's turning handle turns the box round its middle. Drag the label card to move it, as any card. Select a gang to change it as any device: its Connection, its power, or Replace…; see place a keypad, dimmer or switch.
The Gang box row says how many gangs the box has and which one this is. Its ⋯ menu adds a gang of any kind at the end, up to six, or Remove this gang, which deletes this one and closes the gap. A box left with one gang is an ordinary device again.
Equipment and the schedule
Equipment and its CSV list one faceplate row for each box size, such as "Faceplate · 3-gang", besides each gang's own row. The cable schedule tells the electrician once per box: its size, line voltage and a neutral, and a divider where a wired keypad shares the box with line voltage.
