Zoom and move around a drawing

Zoom and pan with a mouse, a trackpad, a touch screen or the keyboard, and fit the sheet back to the screen.

Where to find it: the drawing itself, and Pan and Fit to screen in the bottom toolbar

With a mouse

  • Turn the wheel to zoom in and out. The point under the pointer stays where it is.
  • Hold the wheel down and drag to move the drawing, whatever tool is armed. It never places, moves or draws anything.
  • Double-click the wheel to fit the sheet to the screen.
  • Hold Shift and turn the wheel to move the drawing sideways.

An Apple Magic Mouse scrolls like a trackpad, so turning it moves the drawing. Hold ⌘ while scrolling to zoom.

With a trackpad

Two fingers move the drawing; pinch to zoom. ⌘ or Ctrl while scrolling zooms too. Scrolling and wheel zoom keep working when the pointer crosses a sheet border or its label. Click a border or label to open the sheet’s settings.

On an iPad or a touch screen

Drag with one finger while Pan is chosen; pinch with two fingers to zoom. These gestures also work over sheet borders and labels; dragging does not open the sheet settings.

Anywhere

  • Hold Space and drag to move the drawing without changing tools, or choose Pan and drag.
  • ⌘ + and ⌘ − zoom in and out, and ⌘ 0 fits the sheet; on Windows use Ctrl.
  • Fit to screen in the bottom toolbar fits the sheet too.

Every shortcut is in keyboard shortcuts, and where each control sits is in the drawing screen.
