Place a light fixture

Pick the kind of light in Lighting and click where it goes; each kind is drawn, counted and labelled on its own, such as REC-1, PD-1, TRK-1 or PTH-1.

Where to find it: Palette › Equipment › Lighting

Lighting holds every kind of light in three parts, with a little space between them: the fixtures, then the track light and LED tape with its Wire tool, then the landscape lights. Each kind is an icon of its own with its own number, so a plan reads REC-1, PD-1, SCN-1, and the equipment list counts each kind apart.

Fixtures, in violet:

  • Generic Fixture (L) is a light whose kind is not chosen yet.
  • Recessed · Fixed, Recessed · Adjustable (with an aim stick) and Recessed · Wall wash (the washed side filled) are one kind, REC. They share one count, REC-1, REC-2, and each has a row of its own in Equipment.
  • Pendant (PD) and Chandelier (CH) are drawn as a plan draws them from below.
  • Sconce (SCN) sits with its flat back on the wall.
  • The Ketra and Rania fixtures follow, as before.

A flush mount is not here: it is a trim type, not a kind of light, and returns with the trim types.

Landscape, in green: Path light (PTH), Spot / uplight (UPL), Well light (WEL) and Bollard (BOL).

  1. Open Palette › Equipment and find the light in Lighting. The Placing bar names it, for example Recessed · Wall wash.
  2. Click on the sheet where it goes. Keep clicking to place more, or choose Done.
  3. Turn a sconce until its back meets the wall, and a bollard until its slit faces the way its light leaves. Select the device and set Rotation in Properties. A spot / uplight is aimed: its beam points where its Rotation says.
  4. If you placed the wrong kind, select it and choose ⋯ › Replace…. A Generic Fixture becomes any indoor fixture, and a landscape light another landscape light. It keeps its place and takes the next number of its new kind.

Track light

The Track light (TRK) is drawn from above as a straight rail with its heads on it, in violet. Before you click, the Placing bar offers two menus:

  • Length: 2', 4', 6', 8', 12' or Custom…, where you type a length such as 10' 4".
  • Heads: Auto, which gives 2 on 2', 3 on 4', 4 on 6', 5 on 8' and 6 on 12', a number from 1 to 12, or Custom to type any count, for a short track with many small heads.

On a sheet with a scale a click places the track at its real length, and the icon size never changes that length. Drag an end to make it longer or shorter: that end moves and the other stays where it is, as a shade's does. The length shows as you drag, and the end stops at the standard lengths. Turn it with its round handle. Its label says its length, TRK-1 · 8'-0". Change a placed track in Properties: Length, Custom and Heads work as in the bar. The equipment list has a row for each length, with its heads under it.

The indoor fixtures and the track join a lighting zone and run to the Lighting panel, as the Generic Fixture does; the landscape lights do neither. See draw LED tape, place a device for the Palette, and device.
